Prutsen: to do things of little significance

It’s a Dutch word I learned from Justin, who found it on page 11 of Do Inhabit:

It translates loosely to doing something of very little significance that only looks like work. Only to us, it’s quite significant – not the kind of significance that changes the world, but the kind that changes ours and how we feel in it.

Prutsen is desirable even if no one else cares, knows, or notices; you’re compelled to do it, you’re attentive and absorbed while doing it, and you do it for its own sake.

Here’s to more prutsen.
